A parent with their newborn child. In most cases, it's such an endearing vision. An innocent child, brand new to the world, fragile, vulnerable, eager to learn, and to grow. Our parents or caregiver structure our morals and beliefs, and is and will always be our foundation, the basis for the picture of what our future is likely to mirror, or project.
Most parents feel that their child rearing techniques are up to average or up to par, and a large group of others admit that they raise their children the same way that they were raised whether they feel it was right or wrong, while the smaller percentage of parents will admit that they don't have a clue as to what they are doing when it comes to providing their child with the essential life tools that are necessary to become a productive citizen in our society.
With so many challenges our children face nowadays, seemingly far more than the previous decades, what exactly is a good parent or a bad parent? Some parents use physical punishment, they yell and spank their children, while others choose restrictions as a form of mentally punishing their child. Some parents use the 'do as I say and not as I do' rule, while others tend to practice what they preach. Should you teach them to fight or retreat? Trust or distrust?
I've learned is that you cannot tell a parent how to be a parent. You have to let people raise their own children and try never to intervene unless you are asked to, or unless there is suspicion of abuse.
The video below is an instance of what some folks would consider bad parenting. Do you?
